Phuket Kings Cup Regatta

The King’s Cup Regatta in Phuket is Asia’s largest and most popular regatta.

Inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty King Rama IX of Thailand, the event has been held every year since (except during the Covid 19 years) during the first week of December.

Kata Rocks has proudly sponsored yachts participating in the King’s Cup Regatta for many years. Teaming up with Phuket’s sailing legend Peter Dyer, Kata Rocks sponsored up to 3 yachts across different racing classes with an international crew. Take a look at the photo gallery below for some King’s Cup impressions from previous editions.

The oceanfront residential resort of Kata Rocks is perched on a small cape between Kata and Kata Noi beaches. From the resort’s ocean view terrace or from the privacy of your Sky Pool Villa, you can see the glimmering Andaman Sea and the yachts moored off the pretty island of Koh Pu. The location makes a perfect resting spot for sailors, yacht owners and spectators to enjoy taking in the Kings Cup Regatta experience.

Kata Rocks is thrilled to announce its sponsorship success at the prestigious 35th King’s Cup Regatta. Our sponsored boats, ‘Parabellum,’ an Extreme 40 catamaran, and ‘Twin Sharks,’ have achieved outstanding results in one of Asia’s most legendary yacht races.

Remarkable Performance in the Kings Cup Multihull Racing Class
Parabellum, owned by the Phuket sailor Dan Fidock, showcased an extraordinary performance by securing the first position in its class. This remarkable catamaran, known for its agility and speed, particularly in longer courses, has added another trophy to its illustrious history under Fidock’s leadership. The team’s remarkable synergy, led by former Olympic helmsman Roland Gabler, proved to be a decisive factor in their victory.

Following closely, Twin Sharks, owned by the renowned British sailor John Newnham, secured the second position in the same class. Twin Sharks, a locally designed and built Firefly, demonstrated its strength in the initial heavy weather conditions and has continued to uphold its reputation as a fierce competitor in the King’s Cup.

Royal Honour at Award Ceremony
Adding to the splendor of the event, the sailors had the distinct honor of receiving their awards from Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana, representing His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua. This royal patronage underscores the significance and prestige of the King’s Cup Regatta.

Kata Rocks’ Commitment to Yachting Excellence
Kata Rocks has been a fervent supporter of yachting excellence, and our involvement in sponsoring these distinguished boats and sailors at the King’s Cup Regatta is a testament to our dedication to the sport. Both Parabellum and Twin Sharks, with their experienced international crews and impressive track records in major regattas across Thailand and Malaysia, exemplify the spirit of competition and camaraderie that Kata Rocks values.

We eagerly anticipate the upcoming challenges at the 20th Royal Langkawi International Regatta and the 27th Bay Regatta, where Dan Fidock and John Newnham will continue their renowned rivalry.
